Minimum order quantity, or MOQ, is one of the first questions every new buyer asks, and the honest answer is that it depends on several factors rather than a single fixed number.
Product complexity plays a large role. A simple, high-volume item like a standard dissecting forceps can often be produced at a lower MOQ because the tooling and process are already established. A highly customized instrument built from your own drawings may require a higher MOQ to justify the setup time.
Custom branding also affects MOQ. Adding your logo via laser marking, custom packaging, or a private label insert card usually requires a minimum run to keep the per-unit cost reasonable, since these steps add labor regardless of order size.
Material ordering is another factor. If a specific steel grade or finish needs to be sourced specially for your order, the factory may set a minimum that matches how that raw material is purchased and cut.
The good news for smaller or newer brands is that many manufacturers, including ours, are willing to start with a trial order below the standard MOQ to build the relationship, especially when a buyer is clear about their growth plans. If MOQ is a concern, say so directly in your quote request rather than assuming the first number you’re quoted is fixed.
